"Echoes" - New and retro Indie / Shoegaze / Baggy mix
Here's a new mixed compilation CD I've done this weekend.

Went past the old Gaumont today and noticed they've taken the front off to reveal its old art deco fascade. Nice comparison with how it was in 1934.

Clash Music describe how, "Frontman Alex Turner, fresh from his expansive forays in The Last Shadow Puppets, has retained that laconic croon, while his bandmates extol the same Scott Walker influences in the music, injecting the Arctics with a new sound that sends them onto wild soundscaping adventures."
We All Want Someone to Shout For has posted some previews, and there are also some great demo tracks from Favourite Worst Nightmare on there.
The Guardian goes into some detail in analysing the meaning of the new album title.

Miike Snow - Animal lyrics
This is an absolute tune, and as its fitting with the current "animal" theme of the site I thought I'd post a version of it up here.
I received the CD last week - apparently its a Swedish duo which as well as the original features remixes from Treasure Fingers and Crookers. Treasure Fingers is pretty funky, but not as good as the original which I can't post here - look out for it as it's bound to be a 2009 summer anthem!
Miike Snow - Animal (Treasure Fingers Remix)
Great lyrics too:
There was a time when my world was filled with darkness, darkness darkness
Then I stopped dreaming now I'm supposed to fill it up with something, something something
In your eyes I see the eyes of somebody I knew before long ago
But I'm still trying to my my mind up - am I free or am I tied up?
I change shapes just to hide in this place
But I'm still I'm still an animal
Nobody knows it but me
When I slip I slip I'm still an animal
There is a hole and I try to fill it up with money, money money
But it gets bigger 'til your horses always runing, running running
In your eyes I see the eyes of somebody who could be so, tell me if I'm wrong
Now I'm pulling your disguise up are you free or are you tied up

Fever Ray - When I Grow Up (Lissvik Version)

This is the new single from Fever Ray, aka Karin from The Knife. I've come across this version of the tune by someone called "D Lissvik", which is a little more upbeat than the original version I've seen on Youtube, and features a more rhythmic guitar part and other DJ friendly instrumentals. Album out 30th March.

Absolute Body Control Dropped From Nonsense in the Dark
This comes as a big disappointment as the Body Control track is an "absolute" corker, and is a little mysterious as the track appears on the tracklisting at HMV and Amazon, which is where I bought my copy from.
Update 20:03:09
I contacted Filthy Dukes management who confirmed that German group D.A.F. who wrote the original would not allow them to include the song at the 11th hour and 59th minute.
In the meantime, the track may be downloadable as part of their November 2008 mixtape on their website

Tiefschwarz - Never
Here's a new section of my blog - great tunes from yesteryear resurrected and given a fresh airing.
First up it's a great track from 7 years ago, Tiefschwarz's "Never", quite sublime I'm sure you'll agree. Lower quality mp3 uploaded and will be here for about a week - check out the rest of the album "Ral9005" for more early 90s German deep house goodness.

It's No Illusion!
University Centre Doncaster’s first club-experience will be launched in the newly refurbished Student Bar on Thursday, February 5.Organisers say Illusion will be an audio-visual experience to remember with DJs playing an eclectic mix of music, defying all genres and labels providing guests with an unpredictable array of sights and sounds.
The launch night will coincide with the arrival of three new groups of international students – two from France and one from Germany – giving the free event a real cosmopolitan feel.
It is one of the first events to be held in the newly refurbished Student Bar at the High Melton campus which was opened in January and due to be officially named by students in the coming weeks.

Giant gap opening up in middle of Premiership
Arsenal beat Hull 3-1 away. Arsenal are in 5th with 41 points and Hull in 8th on 27. West Brom beat descending Middleborough 3-0, making Hull's impressive early points accumulation look all of a sudden precarious. West Brom's win puts Tottenham at least temporarily bottom, Blackburn put Newcastle (descending) down by 3 goals to nil, Man City scraped past Wigan to also climb. West Ham and Fulham, both on 26 points and with superior goal difference, will overtake take Hull when they meet each other on Sunday.
